Vladimir Ward
Khan, Clan Wolf

Long lost in the shadow of Ulric Kerensky and his traitorous protégé Phelan, Vlad of the Wards endured until the true Wolf Clan could emerge. Throughout much of his life, events appeared to conspire against his rise to power, but every defeat only brought him new strengths and insights. An unlagging Crusader, Vlad learned leadership and tactics at Ulric Kerensky's side, as well as the political acumen needed by a Clan Khan. When the time was right, Vlad engineered the political crisis that forced Ulric Keresnky to answer for his actions in signing the Truce of Tukayyid. After the Refusal War, Vlad seemingly came back from the dead, full of righteous fire and raw determination to rebuild his Clan. Because of him, Clan Wolf lives again. After claiming his rightful Bloodname unopposed, he was unanimously selected by the assembly of Wolf warriors as Khan of the Wolf Clan.

Since that time, Khan Ward has demonstrated the same dogged persistence in strengthening the Wolves enough to reclaim their prominent place among the Clans. His political and military machinations stopped the call for absorption of the Wolves and cut the strength from the homeworld Clans that had sought to usurp the glory earned by the invading Clans. Clearly, to challenge Khan Ward and his Wolves is to risk losing all.

At the beginning of the Clan invasion, Star Commander Vladimir defeated the young Kell Hound Phelan Kell and his Wolfhound, the other mercenaries from team he was with, and the pirates he was fighting when Wolf 'Mechs arrived on that world. Using his Timber Wolf, Vladimir took down Phelan's 'Mech, and he later captured Phelan and the pirates who survived as bondsmen, but the pirates failed to show much ability and never became more than servants in Clan Wolf. And he also took from Phelan the Kell Hound Belt he wore that his Free Rasalhague girlfriend pilot Tyra Miraborg had made for him, and Vlad proudly adorned himself with it to always taunt Phelan.

In captivity of Vlad and Clan Wolf, Phelan began to learn Clan ways, and adapted quickly. Before too long, he was tested to be a Warrior and passed. Vladimir was surprised by Phelan's successes, and always tried to make life hard on him, and even brutally hurt him several times leaving ugly scars on his leg and back. He even hates Phelan to some degree, because he is freeborn and from the Inner Sphere, and especially after Phelan took to the Warden faction with Ulric Kerensky, and won gaianst him when fighting for the Bloodname Ward.

Despite Vladimir being Crusader, and Ulric Warden, Khan Ulric Kerensky promoted Vlad in the War against the Jade Falcons. It was probably due to Ulric's belief in the Clan and brotherhood foremost over faction, and as a political move to attempt to not alienate the Crusaders from the Clan's decision making and power.

An exceptional MechWarrior, Star Captain Vladimir supported the Crusader philosophy from a young age. After the Truce of Tukayyid, Vlad became the leading voice of the so-called Wolf supremacists-young Wolf MechWarriors sympathetic to the Crusader cause yet fiercely loyal to their Clan. During the five years of uneasy, forced peace between 3052 and 3057, the younger Wolf warriors' discontent with their Warden Clan leaders grew and Vlad saw an opportunity to achieve the glory he believed the Truce had denied him. Along with the late Wolf Clan Loremaster Dalk Carns and a young Star Captain named Marialle Radick, Vlad conducted a secret internal investigation of ilKhan Ulric Kerensky. That investigation resulted in charges of genocide and treason against Ulric. However, the subsequent Trial of Refusal forced Vlad to choose between allegiance to his fellow Crusaders among the Jade Falcons and allegiance to his own Clan, and Vlad fought side by side with Ulric Kerensky against the Falcon forces. After Vladimir saw with his own eyes the Falcons murder of Ulric Kerensky in his 'Mech, and the Falcons then failed to kill Vlad himself; he survived to tell his tale after he was rescued from the rubble and his damaged and buried Timber Wolf by Marialle Radick.

He had witnessed the dishonorable act of cowardice and treachery by which the Jade Falcon Khan Vandervahn Chistu killed Ulric, and he took saKhan Vandevahn Chistu to Trial and killed the selfish and treacherous man in 'Mech combat in a Trial of Grievance. The reward for his victory was the Bloodname of Ward that he had so long coveted, a Bloodname that had once belonged to Khan Phelan Kell of the Wolf Clan in exile. Now he had his retaliation by killing Khan Chistu, but as soon as he could, Vladimir would have to fight back as the Falcon Khans tried to absorb the Wolf Clan or name it Jade Wolf.

As the pre-eminent warrior among the Wolf supremacists that make up the newly christened Clan Jade Wolf, Vlad was widely expected to become that Clan's first Khan. If he attained that position, he would face the daunting task of rebuilding the Wolf military machine and maintaining control of the systems the Wolves captured during the initial invasion of the Inner Sphere. He was aided in this enormous endeavor by his staunch belief that the now Jade Wolves were the best of the Wolf Clan, exemplars of the purest Clan traditions.

Vladimir Ward brought Jade Falcon Khan Elias Crichell to trial for corruption, aiding the plot to murder of Ulric Kerensky, and for covering up his physical unfitness as a warrior in order to continue to lead. He proved Crichell's unfitness and brutally killed him in in a duel in front of the Clan Council. This act also opened the door to freedom from the Falcons for the Wolves. Vlad Ward and Marialle Radick then worked to free and re establish the Crusader dominated side of the Wolf Clan.

In recent events, Vladimir Ward has made friendly political contact with the Jade Falcons, and negotiated and coupled with Jade Falcon Khan Marthe Pryde. He also has communicated with House Steiner of the Inner Sphere, and is trying to ally with Catherine "Katrina" Steiner, and strangely he has an attraction to Katrina, the freeborn leader of the Inner Sphere Lyran Alliance.

Vladimir Ward is from the same sibko as Ranna, Evantha and Carew, though none of them share geneparents. Vladimir is very arrogant and forward and confident. He is very skilled in speaking, and has a mean streak, and a cruel fighting style, especially in hand to hand. Vlad has a slash scar across the left side of his face, from above the eyebrow to down across the cheek, and he still wears the belt Tyra made for Phelan Kell.

Vladimir Ward's favorite 'Mech to pilot is the Timber Wolf.
