Russou is from the same sibko as Trent and Jez. Through his life Russou was very much friends with his sibkin Trent, but he was less close to Jez since she was cruel and unfriendly, and took any opportunity she could to insult or fight Trent, or use deceptions to damage Trent's honor and carrer. Russou had a fierce Warrior fighting spirit typical of the Smoke Jaguar Warrior tradition, but he and Trent lacked the corrupt, and outright ruthlessness, including loathing of and lack of concern toward lives of civilians and freeborns that was increasing among many Smoke Jaguar Warriors.

When Trent was found to be a traitor by Jaguar superiors, Russou was ordered by Star Colonel Paul Moon to assassinate Trent. After Trent's assasination, Russou was quickly tested for promotions and selected for Trial of Bloodright which he knew was rigged because he passed it too easily. His quick promotions and new rank of Galaxy Commander was more signs of corruption within the Clan. Russou Howell was deeply saddened by Trent's death, and eventually took on alcoholism to soothe his depression.

After aquiring his rank of Galaxy Commander, Russou Howell was sent to a base on the Smoke Jaguar homeworld Huntress to command the garrisson forces there, -many of then being solahma and rebellious Warriors who were demoted for poor attitude. Russou Howell loathed Smoke Jaguar corruption, and being placed on Huntress, but he did his best to serve his Clan and lead and shape up his new troops.

While on Huntress, Galaxy Commander Russou Howell captured Jade Falcon Star Captain Horse and his Trinary of freeborn Falcon MechWarriors. He was curious that a freeborn would rise to such rank, and carried out a series of tests on the Falcon freeborn Warrior Horse to measure his strength and loyalty to the Jade Falcons. Horse passed the tests valiantly, defeating Star Colonel Logan Wirth in fist fights, and even beating Russou Howell in 'Mech combat. With the help of a Jade Falcon solahma named Sentennia Buhallin, Horse and most of his Trinary eventually escaped from Russou Howell and the Smoke Jaguars.

Russou Howell's favorite 'Mech to pilot is the Mad Dog.
