Rebirth and Expansion The death of
ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky, followed by the election of Jerome Winson of Clan Wolf
as ilKhan, marked the first time that the Clans were not led by a Kerensky.
Instead of marking the beginning of an age of indecision and uncertainty, the
next century came to be known as "The Golden Century." All facets of Clan
society experienced a period of intense development and growth during this time.
The worlds of the Pentagon were reconstructed, erasing the final scars of the
Civil War. Nicholas Kerensky, like his father before him, was elevated to the
level of a demi-god, and both his writings and recorded speeches became objects
of reverence. Exploration
continued in the Kerensky Cluster, but exploitation of its worlds lagged for two
reasons. One was the sheer lack of people trained to take advantage of any
discoveries, and the other was the Grand Council's desire to keep Clan society
on a short rein. This did not prevent the Clans from bidding for newly
discovered worlds. Although most Clans established only small outposts on new
worlds, Clan Wolf seems to have taken fuller advantage of what they owned. They
established major industrial complexes on the cluster worlds of Paxon and Tiber,
despite rumblings within the Grand Council against such extensive
colonization. The scientist and
technician castes reached new heights of excellence during the Golden Century.
They perfected artificial womb technology, rebuilt the Clans' industrial base,
and made advances in virtually every field of endeavor. Not surprisingly, it was
in military technology that they made the greatest, and ultimately the most
devastating, advances. In 2854,
scientists from Clan Coyote carried the concept of the Mercury BattleMech to its
logical extreme by developing a 'Mech with a completely modular weapons system.
The result was an "OmniMech," a machine whose weaponry could be completely
reconfigured or replaced by a few technicians to suit the situation in just a
few hours. This was the first significant improvement of the BattleMech since
its development by the Star League, and it gave the Clans tremendous
flexibility, which they have used against us to great advantage. Because of the
OmniMechs, Clan Coyote enjoyed a considerable advantage until the other Clans
could create their own versions. This took several years. At about the same
time the OmniMechs were being developed, Clan Wolf scientists were working on an
armored infantry suit. It protected a soldier, allowed him to keep up with
'Mechs, and enabled him to carry weaponry that could threaten 'Mechs. The Wolf
Clan used the first of these powered armor suits in 2868, when two Stars of Clan
Wolf infantry defeated a light Star of Clan Nova Cat OmniMechs during a Trial of
Possession. Both the battle
armor and those wearing it were called "Elementals" because they could fight in
any element: air, water, fire, earth, or even space. It is interesting to note
that some passages of The Remembrance mention specific elements when referring
to the battle armor, which suggests that early versions of the units functioned
in specific environments. The scientist caste began breeding larger and
physically stronger warriors who could better cope with the strain of wearing
the armor. Other technological and biological advances resulted in the Clans
boasting troops of genetically superior Elementals before 25 years had
passed. During the Golden
Century, the Clans matured into a society totally unlike anything with which the
Inner Sphere can call familiar. Discussions with various Loremasters indicate
that it was during this era that the Clans began to foster a hatred for the peoples
of the Inner Sphere. Though The Remembrance couches the Clan's sentiments in
quasi-religious tones, their view of the Inner Sphere is made clear. Those of the
Inner Sphere are considered unenlightened savages living in luxury, while a far
more civilized people is forced to live on hostile worlds far from Terra. In
particular, they developed a strong contempt for the five major Houses, whom they
consider responsible for the Star League's fall. Clan warriors see the worlds of
the Inner Sphere, especially those of the former Terran Hegemony, as virtual
paradises, but their view is distorted by both
bitterness and idealization. |
|
Crusaders' Call By 2980 many in
the Clans were ready to return to the Inner Sphere. Citing The Remembrance,
warriors noted that three generations had passed many times over, and that it
was time to reestablish the Star League and end their self-imposed exile. This
zealous faction called itself the "Crusaders." Other warriors embraced the
Crusaders' views, not because they believed in the faction's interpretation of
The Remembrance, but because they saw the Inner Sphere as an opportunity to
prove themselves. Even the lower castes, particularly the merchants, who were
always eager for new markets, began to agree that the Hidden Hope would be
resolved by the Clans' return to the Inner Sphere. The Grand Council
had strong reservations about returning, mainly because of an almost total lack
of information about events in the Inner Sphere since the Exodus. They expressed
the fear that the Inner Sphere had not gone up in flames as predicted, but was
united, as strong as or stronger than the Clans. The council
decided to form Intelser, an intelligence service whose operatives would move
cautiously toward the Inner Sphere to gather information. Operatives traveling
as independent traders made contact with and infiltrated the Periphery states,
relaying what they learned to the Clans. By 2984, a somewhat confused picture of
the Inner Sphere had begun to emerge. The Clans learned
that there had, indeed, been a holocaust, called the Succession Wars, as
predicted by Aleksandr Kerensky. However, they mistakenly believed that the
technological level of the Periphery domains was typical of the entire Inner
Sphere. The Grand Council decided that the Inner Sphere was not a military
threat. Those who wanted to return claimed that the conditions laid out by
General Order 137 proved that the time was ripe: "When the time is right, when
the strength of our will and our honor is humanity's only hope to struggle up
from the ashes, only then can our strong descendants make the long journey to
the home that is rightfully ours." The Crusaders felt these conditions had been
fulfilled. The Grand Council agreed to discuss the Crusaders' call to arms, and
thus began what would become known as the Great Debate. The Clans
eventually formed two camps, the Crusaders and the Wardens. The Crusaders were
those who favored an immediate return to the Inner Sphere to reestablish the
Star League according to the writings of the Kerenskys. The Wardens, on the
other hand, believed that the Kerenskys had never meant their words to be read
so literally. They asserted that the words were meant not as a command to future
generations, but to stir courage. They believed the Clans' destiny was to
develop their own culture, separate from the tainted ways of the Inner Sphere,
but willing and able to come to the Inner Sphere's aid if menaced by any outside
threat. Though challenged
to do so, the Wardens never clearly articulated what they meant by "outside
threat." Some suggested intelligent life forms from beyond human-conquered
space. Others made reference to the possibility of a despotic domain in the
Inner Sphere whose principles ran so contrary to human decency that the Wardens
would feel compelled to intervene. At most, said the
Wardens, the Clans should establish only the coolest of relations with the
domains of the Inner Sphere, returning only if invited or if the Successor
States collapsed through their own folly. Both sides supported their arguments
with the writings of the Kerenskys, but neither side could claim a majority and
force the issue. Individual Clans were divided over the issue, most being split
almost evenly between the two suggested courses of action. This is the most
divisive issue that the Clans have ever faced. The debate lasted
months, then years, during which the Crusaders slowly mustered a majority.
Though Clan Wolf remained primarily Warden, even their influence could not stem
the tide of support for the Crusaders. |
Dragoon Compromise In 3000, Khan
Nadia Winson of Clan Ghost Bear, sensing that the Crusaders had finally gained
the upper hand, attempted to force the issue with a vote. She was stymied when
Khan Kerlin Ward of Clan Wolf suggested a clever compromise. Khan Kerlin Ward
contended that not enough information was yet available to make such an
important decision. He proposed sending a sizable Clan force, under the guise of
a mercenary unit, into the Inner Sphere to judge its military, economic, and
political might, providing the Grand Council with a detailed report of the
strengths and weaknesses of their future opponents. The Grand Council
agreed the plan had merit, and Clan Wolf was awarded the honor of mustering the
force. Rather than risk their best fighters, they planned to use freebirths and
other low-regarded warriors. If these warriors performed well, they would be
rewarded by having their genes added to the gene pool. The unit was
dubbed "Wolf's Dragoons." Commanding the multi-regiment unit were Jaime and
Joshua Wolf, controversial choices because both were freebirth. Many of the
Clans balked at this choice, but the Grand Council finally decided that Clan
Wolf had the right to outfit and staff the Dragoons as they saw fit. The roster
of the Dragoons included several Bloodnamed warriors who volunteered for the
mission, among them a young and feisty Natasha Kerensky. The Dragoons left
for the Inner Sphere in 3004, outfitted with pre-Exodus BattleMechs from some of
the oldest Brian Caches. Other vehicles and equipment were retro-fitted with
pre-Exodus parts to prevent advanced technology from accidentally falling into
the hands of the Inner Sphere. Young freebirth "dependents" rounded out the
appearance of a nomadic mercenary company. The Dragoons made
contact with the Inner Sphere a year later, after making a long, circuitous
journey to prevent the curious from discovering their point of origin. They went
on to make their historic circuit of service through the Inner Sphere, gathering
detailed information on each of the governments and militaries they served. In
3009, the unit returned to the Clans for refitting. They also filed their
first-hand reports on the Inner Sphere. The Dragoons'
reports contrasted significantly with the previous Clan perception of the Inner
Sphere. The Dragoons reported that the Inner Sphere was not on the verge of
collapse, but on the road to recovery. This revelation further divided the Grand
Council. The Dragoons were ordered to return to the Inner Sphere and continue
their mission, while the Clans considered the implications of their new
information. The Dragoons
returned, but near the end of the Third Succession War, their intelligence
reports to the Grand Council began to slow, for no known reason. It is possible
the Dragoons found the freedom of the Inner Sphere, where there were no real
castes and where growing old as an active warrior was accepted, to their liking.
On the other hand, the death of Joshua Wolf may have played a key role in
turning Jaime and the rest of the Dragoons away from the Clans' grand scheme.
The Grand Council was unprepared for the Dragoons' sudden reticence, and could
not agree on how to react or how to supplement their intelligence-gathering
efforts. The Wardens and
Crusaders squared off for a new, more hotly contested debate in late 3029 when
rumors from the Periphery suggested a possible union between the Federated Suns
and the Lyran Commonwealth. The Crusaders claimed that if the rumors were true,
such a union would represent a major obstacle to any attempt by the Clans to
restore the Star League. Khan Ulric
Kerensky, successor to Khan Kerlin Ward in Clan Wolf, stalled a decisive vote in
the Grand Council long enough for news of the Fourth Succession War to reach the
Clans. This new war took much of the steam out of the Crusaders' argument that
the Inner Sphere was on the verge of reunification. Khan Ulric took advantage of
the situation by sponsoring a proposal to postpone the Great Debate until the
end of the Fourth Succession War. The proposal was narrowly accepted, but Khan
Ulric Kerensky had antagonized the leaders of Clan Jade Falcon, the most radical
of the Crusader Clans. |

Invasion
Comstar officials became stunned when they discovered that the incident that
eventually tipped the scales in favor of invasion was triggered by members of their
own Blessed Order. One day a ROM exploration vessel, "Outbound Light," appeared
at a jump point near Huntress, a world dominated by Clan Smoke Jaguar. Sensing an
opportunity but fearing that the Inner Sphere might be on the verge of discovering
the location of the Clan worlds, Khan Leo Showers ordered that the vessel be taken
intact, with the crew unharmed. Instead of instantly informing the Grand Council
of the capture, as might be expected, Khan Leo first interrogated the crew of the
explorer ship for several days. When Khan Leo
finally notified the other Clans of his discovery, he did so with superior
knowledge of the Inner Sphere situation and of how ComStar, a force previously
unknown to the Clans, fit into the picture. By manipulating what he had learned,
Khan Leo Showers forced the Clans to reopen the Great Debate and consider
several new issues. Most convincing was his argument that our Blessed Order
might soon uncover the location of the Clans, thus exposing them to the entire
Inner Sphere. The thought of Inner Sphere forces invading the worlds of the
Clan, instead of the converse, was unthinkable to most Grand Council members.
Khan Leo Showers laid out the facts of what was happening in the Inner Sphere.
The Federated Commonwealth was now a battle-proven, undeniable fact. Also, there
had been a sudden recovery of lostech, and the Inner Sphere was far from falling
into shambles. The Khan extrapolated that the Federated Commonwealth might well
subdue the rest of the Inner Sphere and declare itself the Star League reborn.
This was a travesty every Clansman would be willing to give his life to prevent.
It was an extremely persuasive argument. The result was a
Grand Council vote in favor of invasion. Only Clan Wolf voted against. Khan
Ulric Kerensky demanded a Trial of Refusal for Clan Wolf. The odds began at
sixteen to one, but the bidding reduced the odds to four to one. The warriors of
Clan Wolf fought bravely, particularly those of the Third Battle Cluster, who
bore the brunt of the action. They nearly seized victory from Khan Leo Showers
and his forces, but sheer numbers prevailed, leaving the Wolf force devastated.
Khan Leo Showers took advantage of pro-Crusader sentiment, and was elected
ilKhan of the Grand Council. Preparations to invade the Inner Sphere began
immediately. Their plan was named Operation Revival. IlKhan Leo
Showers, satisfied that he would soon see his life's ambition fulfilled, issued
a formal recall order to Wolf's Dragoons, calling upon "our valiant warriors in
the barbarian hinterlands to return home," despite his long-standing disdain for
the unit. The recall was actually an effort to prove once and for all that
Wolf's Dragoons had turned their back on the Clans and could no longer be
trusted. He hoped to imply by this that Clan Wolf was also suspect. Natasha
Kerensky, the only living Bloodnamed warrior of the Dragoons, was the only
Dragoon to return to the Clans when called, which seemed to prove the ilKhan's
contention. The invasion was
halted when ComStar negotiated the use of Tukayyid as a proxy battlefield for
Terra. If the Clans won, Terra would be theirs, while if they lost, the Clans
would cease hostilities for a period of fifteen years, ending in 3067. |

Jade Falcon Invasion Waves: FIRST WAVE (March-April 3050) |
|
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Third Falcon Talon Cluster (Jade Falcon Galaxy), Gyrfalcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Alkalurops Militia, the Bouncer Regiment (a mercenary combined forces regiment) Major Battle Sites: Dravinna Vale, Benden City Outcome: With a fast and furious assault, Star Colonel Arien Hazen succeeded in seizing the capital and economic centers of the planet. Many of the defending forces, though, including a large contingent from the Bouncer mercenary regiment, were never captured. Just days after the planet's surrender, these forces formed organized and effective resistance, attacking the invaders near the ore-processing factories of Dravinna Vale, using the valley's perpetual fog to cover their activities. |
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Eighth Falcon Regulars (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: Second New Ivaarsen Chasseurs, the Anywhere Militia Major Battle Sites: Pickrock Hill, Brigham Rollo, Santina Trespass Outcome: The Second New Ivaarsen Chasseurs, the ducal forces of the Stephensons of the Draconis March, arrived on Anywhere shortly before the Clan assault, and so were unfamiliar with the planet's terrain. The Golden Talons attacked so quickly that they caught the Chasseurs unprepared and forced them to commit several costly mistakes, culminating in the loss of more than 60 percent of their forces in the Brigham Rollo. |
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Ninth Talon Cluster (Jade Falcon Galaxy), Third Falcon Talon Cluster (Jade Falcon Guards (Reserve)) Defending Forces: Seventeenth Skye RCT, the Barcelona Militia Major Battle Sites: Mariah's Pinnacle, Su Filla, Vacuum Ridge Outcome: The elite Skye RCT, nicknamed the "Boys of Summer" defended Barcelona and its vital industrial complexes. The Jade Falcon invasion took them by surprise, but the Seventeenth Skye recovered quickly, counterattacking with such ferocity that they halted the Falcon advance. Star Colonel Devon Hazen was forced to swallow his pride and call in the Falcon Guards, who dislodges the Boys of Summer from their defensive positions around the capital. The Skye commander, Leftenant Mitchell Simons, then requested Jumpships from Area Commander Hauptmann General Frances Bissell to evacuate his forces. Bissell denied Simons' request, but an insubordinate Jumpship commander flouted Bissell's order and evacuated a handful of the RCT to Somerset. Federation of Skye separatists later claimed that Bissell deliberately denied the Skye Rangers transportation because of the Rangers' loyalty to the Skye people. March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Turkina Keshik, Eighth Falcon Regulars (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: First Grave Walkers (a mercenary 'Mech regiment), Bone Norman Militia Major Battle Sites: Red Stone Palace Outcome: Bone Norman's defenders received ample warning o the enemy's advance via a test run of an FCCS surveillance satellite network that coincided with the Falcons' approach. Colonel Dennis Merwin, commander of the Grave Walkers, read the small number of approaching Clan Dropships as a sign of weakness and attacked the Falcons as they dropped onto the plain below the Red Stone Palace. The Grave Walkers initially beat back the invaders, but as Falcon reinforcements arrived, the momentum of the battle swung in favor of the attackers. Warned of the enemy strength, the planetary militia scattered and began guerrilla action Bone Norman continues to be a hotbed of armed resistance to the Clans. |
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Turkina Keshik, Third Falcon Talon Cluster (Jade Falcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: Eighth Arcturan Guards RCT, Here Militia Major Battle Sites: Cameron Valley, Connor Pass Outcome: The elite Turkina Keshik and the Third Falcon Talons used their greater battle experience to offset the Eighth Arcturan numerical advantage. Fighting street to street through the deserted Cameron City, the Falcons rolled back all of the defenders attempts to slow them. The Eighth Arcturans collapsed twenty hours into the campaign when the Falcons pierced the hastily erected defenses around the capital city of Struggle and killed Hauptmann General Frederic Anderson. The survivors of the RCT retreats the planet Somerset, while the remnants of the militia fled into the planet's catacombs to organize armed guerrilla resistance. |
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Fourth Falcon Talon Cluster (less Trinary Bravo) (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: Persistence Militia, Persistence Inc. Security Force Major Battle Sites: Jestin Ridge, Danderson City Outcome: While ill equipped to protect themselves against the onslaught of a Clan Cluster, the defenders of Persistence lived up to their homeworld's name. Nichole Danderson, charismatic president of the planet's congress and CEO of Persistence Munitions Inc led her personal security force to a near-impossible victory over the Fourth Falcon Talon at Jestin Ridge overlooking Danderson City. The victory was only temporary, however. The Falcons regrouped, flanked the defenders, and took the city, but most of the militia fled into the surrounding hills. |
April 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Eighth Falcon Regulars (Peregrine Galaxy), Twelfth Falcon Regulars Cluster (Jade Falcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: First Regiment of the Twelfth Star Guards, Steelton Defense Brigade Major Battle Sites: Knuteson's Drabbins, Chosin, and Red Stain Rock Outcome: Clan codex records identified Colonel Francis "Crab" Carranza, commander of Steelton's defenses, as a relative of an honored warrior who had joined the Exodus and died in combat defending the Kerenskys. The Falcons honored Colonel Carranza by challenging him according to the rules of the Batchall. Carranza falsely claimed that he commanded a brigade of crack 'Mech troops. In response, Galaxy Commander Angeline Mattlov reluctantly added the Twelfth Falcon Regulars forces to her own Eighth Falcon Regulars to invade Steelton. The Falcon invasion targeted Cregan Bluff, the planet's capital, and the Lear Mountain mine works to the south of the city. Anticipating an attack from Colonel Carranza's non-existent 'Mech brigade, the Falcons advanced slowly. The two Clusters did not cooperate, and seemed as interested in hindering each other's progress as in attacking the enemy. "Crab" Carranza's deception finally failed when the Twelfth Falcon Regular's heavy 'Mechs overran his second battalion at the town of Chosin. The Twelfth Star Guards managed to hold a perimeter around Red Stain Rock long enough for nearly a battalion of their unit and a regiment of the local militia to evacuate to the planet Wotan, but the Twelfth could not prevent their gallant Colonel's death. |
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Turkina Keshik, Ninth Talon Cluster Defending Forces: Second Regiment of the Twelfth Star Guards, Toland Defense Force (three mixed regiments) Major Battle Sites: Judea Jungles, Cantor Climb, and Toland City Outcome: The Turkina's heavy 'Mechs, complemented by the light 'Mechs of the Ninth Talon, virtually annihilated Colonel Franklin Pierce Marinetti's Twelfth Star Guards 'Mech regiment. The Falcons forced the Star Guards out of the dark hollows of the Judea Jungle and chased them onto the exposed barrens of the Cantor Climb, where Falcon fighters strafed them and swift Falcon units continued to sap their remaining strength in lightning raids. Less than a company of Star Guards reached the defense works of Toland City, most of those survivors died in the final battle a day later. |
March 3050 Clan Jade Falcon Forces: Fifth Battle Cluster (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: Winfield's Regiment, Winfield Militia Brigade Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Insufficient Clan intelligence reports and Jade Falcon arrogance made the planet Winfield the Falcons' most difficult conquest. The elite 'Mechs of Winfield's Regiment surrounded the Fifth Battle Cluster, almost overrunning the Gyrfalcon landing zones. Star Colonel Evak Mattlov breached the ring of Winfield 'Mechs with teams of Elementals whose fierce fighting, speed, and strength broke the defenders' lines. Before making an orderly retreat off-planet, Winfield's Regiment organized the planet's militia to wage a guerrilla campaign. |
|
SECOND WAVE (May-June 3050) |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Turkina Keshik Defending Forces: Second Grave Walkers, Apollo Militia Major Battle Sites: Outcome: |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Gyrfalcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Elements of the First Grave Walkers, elements of the Seventeenth Skye RCT Major Battle Sites: Black Earth Spaceport, New Houston Outcome: Following their disastrous defeats on Barcelona an Bone Norman, the remnants of the Seventeenth Skye RCT and the First Grave Walkers regrouped on Black Earth. The Falcons hit Black Earth like a hurricane, decimating the already battered defending forces. The Jade Falcon aerospace commander surprised the Seventeenth Skye RCT aerospace fighters on the ground but allowed the pilots to scramble and mount a defense The Seventeenth's fighters fought bravely, but the Falcons over powered them. The 'Mechs and tanks of the Seventeenth held of Gyrfalcon Galaxy for an hour at the space port before collapsing. The First Grave Walkers attempted to use flaming oil from a New Houston refinery as a defensive barrier, but they learned, as the fourteenth Legion of Vega learned battling Clan Smoke Jaguar that this tactic was useless against the Clans' superior technology. Within thirty hours of the initial assault, Clan Jade Falcon controlled Black Earth. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Fourth Falcon Velites (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: Winfield's Regiment Major Battle Sites: Omega Plain Outcome: Leftenant General Davis Winfield knew that the incoming Dropships carried enough of the Fourth Velites to outnumber his forces. Showing exceptional courage, which impressed the Jade Falcons, General Winfield countered the Falcon Batchall by challenging Star Colonel Evak Mattlov of the Fourth Velites to personal combat. Winfield had the upper hand until a lucky laser hit destroyed his Atlas' gyro. General Winfield's enraged troops attacked the Velites' positions, and Winfield, knocked unconscious when his 'Mech fell, could not order his troops to cease-fire. The Falcon Velites obliterated Winfield's Regiment. When General Winfield awoke in a Jade Falcon hospital unit, he was saluted for his honor, and made bondsman to Clan Jade Falcon. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Third Falcon Talon (Jade Falcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Remnants of the Twelfth Donegal Guards RCT Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Disheartened by their recent defeat on Trell I, the Twelfth Guards RCT disintegrated soon after the Third Falcon Talon landed. The Falcons easily crushed the small groups of Guards that rallied to fight fierce actions, but by the end of the day, the Twelfth RCT no longer existed. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: First Falcon Striker (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: Evciler Militia Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The militia, mostly green recruits and personnel near retirement, decided not to resist the First Falcon Strikers, hoping to save their planet from the ravages of war. The Jade Falcons outraged at what looked to them like the militia's cowardice, swiftly brought the planet under control. The sole resister, a young 'Mech cadet piloting a Locust, attacked and nearly destroyed a Jade Falcon Dasher before his 'Mech blew apart. The cadet survived the explosion and became a bondsman. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Units: 124th Striker Cluster (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Units: Golandrinas Militia Major Battle Sites: Golandrinas Space Port Outcome: The Golandrinas Militia attempted to stop the 124th Striker Cluster in its initial approach by mining the space port with vibrabombs and digging tanks and infantry into concealed positions. The Elementals of the 124th disarmed or destroyed most of the mines, allowing the Clan OmniMechs to close in and annihilate the militia's tanks and 'Mech company unopposed. Because they lost more than 90 percent of their forces to the Clan, the militia and the planetary government surrendered without further resistance. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Units: 305th Assault Cluster (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Units: Maxie's Militia Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Retired Major Hans Remke of the LCAF led the resistance on Maxie's Planet. Remke used a lance of medium 'Mechs to harass the 305th Assault Cluster with hit-and-run raids. The 305th took the planet despite the major's efforts, and Remke was presumed killed when his Phoenix Hawk was destroyed. Four months after the conquest, a small group of 'Mechs began raiding the PGC garrisoning Maxie's Planet, which suggests that Major Remke may still be alive. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Units: First Falcon Striker (Gyrfalcon
Galaxy) Major Battle Sites: Romulus City Outcome: Because it lacked aerospace support, the Romulus Militia chose to make its stand in the planetary capital. The militia’s super-heavy tanks and heavy 'Mech company fought fiercely took heavy casualties before losing to the Clan's superior force Ninety percent of the militia died fighting, and Romulus City reduced to rubble. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Units: Second Falcon Jaegers (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Units: Seiduts Militia Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Seiduts' terrain was unsuited to the guerrilla tactics militia tried to use. The Jade Falcon's orbital recon located every militia unit within three days, and the ground forces moved in an eliminated them. |
May 3050 Jade Falcon Units: 94th Striker Cluster (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Units: Somerset Academy Training Battalion, remnants of the Eighth Arcturan RCT and the Second Ivaarsen Chasseurs. Major Battle Sites: Somerset Spaceport, Hollyfield Outcome: The Somerset Academy Training Battalion received its baptism by fire when the 94th Striker Cluster landed at Somerset SpacePort. The cadets' courage was no substitute for experience and the 94th took the Spaceport in less than an hour. The Eighth RCT and Second Ivaarsen Chasseurs met the 94th Striker Cluster near the town of Hollyfield. By the end of the twelve-hour battle, the gallant Federated Commonwealth troops had been virtually destroyed. |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Units: Falcon Guards (Jade Falcon
Galaxy) Major Battle Sites: Plain of Curtains, Carswell Barrens, Auburn Depot, Hawkroost, and Camora Space Port Outcome: The Falcon Guards outclassed the Twycross TMM from the outset. Unable to stop the Guards, the TMM fought fanatically to protect their world and made the Falcons pay for every inch of ground. The Falcon Guards needed three weeks to secure Twycross, thus delaying the Clan's invasion schedule. The shattered remnants of the Twycross TMM evacuated, carrying information on Jade Falcon tactics that the AFFC used to plan the successful counterattack on Twycross. |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Gyrfalcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Survivors of the First and Second Regiments of the Twelfth Star Guards, Wotan TMM Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The remnants of the Twelfth Star Guards split up and hit the Clan forces in a series of lightning raids, successfully coordinating their efforts until a Jade Falcon air strike killed Colonel Franklin Pierce Marinetti in his 'Mech. Gyrfalcon Galaxy handily defeated the scattered Guards. The Wotan TMM fought so poorly that Khan Crichell later referred to the battle against them as an execution. |
|
THIRD WAVE (June 3050) |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Units: 124th Striker Cluster (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Units: Beta VII Militia Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The 124th Striker Cluster conquered Beta VII easily. They faced an unprepared planetary militia consisting of one lance of light Locust and Valkyrie 'Mechs, one company of tanks, and a single infantry battalion. The 124th's commander single-handedly wiped out the 'Mech lance, commenting later that he found it less of a challenge than his first Trial of Position. The Tank Company fought hardest, destroying three OmniMechs before the Falcons crushed the resistance. The battle-armored Elementals caused the infantry to break ranks and run. Some infantrymen turned guerrilla, but most faded back into the anonymity of civilian life. |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Units: Turkina Keshik, First Falcon Striker (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Units: Hot Springs TMM Major Battle Sites: Outcome: |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Units: 89th Falcon Striker Cluster (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Units: Malibu Militia Major Battle Sites: Malibu City Outcome: The green troops of the Malibu Militia met the 89th Falcon Strikers four kilometers outside Malibu City. Within five minutes of joining battle, the militia broke and ran in a blind panic. Two Trinaries of the 89th pursued the fleeing troops back to the city where the planetary administrator surrendered the world without further resistance. Derided by both Clansmen and Inner Sphere military personnel as a coward, the administrator chose to save his people from being slaughtered by an invincible enemy. Malibu has been the least rebellious world in the Jade Falcon Occupation Zone. |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: First Falcon Velites Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Aware that it could not win if it fought the Jade Falcons in pitched battle, the Roadside Militia took to the hills. Splitting up into lance- and platoon-sized units, the militia set traps and ambushes and sprung them on individual Stars. Several Stars of the First Velites fell victim to these traps, but the surviving Falcons hunted down and killed every militia member in revenge for these dishonorable tactics. The Roadside Militia's sacrifice tied the First Velites down on the planet for almost two weeks. |
June 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Second Falcon Jaegers (Gyrfalcon
Galaxy) Major Battle Sites: Waldorff City Outcome: The Waldorff City Police constituted the only armed force on the planet when the Second Falcon Jaegers landed. One company of infantry, two armored cars, and an UrbanMech put up a spirited but futile fight against the Clans' superior invading force. Using their intimate knowledge of the city, the police led the Second Jaegers into ambushes, then disengaged from battle and escaped through the city's storm-drain and sewer systems. The Jaegers destroyed the central precinct house and captured or killed most of the police force. To their credit, the police crippled an OmniMech and killed four Elementals before the fighting ended. |
|
FOURTH WAVE (July-October 3050) |
July 3050 Jade Falcon Units: Turkina Keshik, First Falcon Striker, First Falcon Velites (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Units: Tenth Lyran Guards RCT Major Battle Sites: Mar Negro Outcome: The Tenth Lyran Guards RCT detected the approaching Jade Falcon Dropships early and made preparations for the assault. The Guards met the Turkina Keshik and First Falcon Striker at Mar Negro, overlooking the ocean. The Tenth held their own against severe pressure until the First Falcon Velites arrived to reinforce Clan Jade Falcon. Heavily outgunned, the Tenth Lyran disengaged. Victor Steiner-Davion and his battalion fought a delaying action to buy the Tenth Lyran Guards time to evacuate to their Dropships. Aware of the identity of their opponent, the Falcons tried to capture Victor, knowing that the loss of their Prince would devastate Federated Commonwealth morale. Victor escaped the Jade Falcon trap, but lost his best friend and fellow officer Kai Allard-Liao, who is listed as missing in action, presumed |
July 3050 Jade Falcon Units: Gyrfalcon Galaxy Major Battle Sites: Antares City, Alba Outcome: Of minor strategic importance to the Federated Commonwealth, the world of Antares was lightly defended only by a militia battalion and a series of fortifications constructed by the locals. Clan Jade Falcon's Star League records named Antares as the site of an SLDF replenishment and re-supply base, and so the Falcon Khans ordered the base taken at all costs. Gyrfalcon Galaxy landed on Antares with heavy aerospace support and destroyed the planetary militia's fighters on the ground. Antares City fell quickly, despite the militia's valiant efforts. The town of Alba proved harder to take. Unknown to its inhabitants, Alba was situated almost on top of the old Star League base. Because Alba contained the planet's largest water purification plant, the battle there was among the bloodiest of the fourth wave. The Falcons, initially reluctant to risk damaging the water purifier by using massed air strikes, suffered revere casualties, especially the Second Falcon Jaegers. When Khan Crichell's logistics officers informed him that Jumpships could deliver a water purifier from Clan space in two and a half months, Crichell ordered the fighters to bomb the town flat. The funned survivors watched the Jade Falcon engineers unearth the large Star League base beneath their town. The Star League-era supplies and the base facility made Antares a valuable prize. When ilKhan Ulric Kerensky forced Clan Jade Falcon to share control of Antares with Clan Steel Viper, they precipitated a brutal series of Trials of Possession for the base which increased the Falcons' hatred for their fellow Clan. |
July 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Peregrine Galaxy Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The Apolakkia Militia engaged Peregrine Galaxy as it advanced on the planetary capital, prepared to disappear into the forests as soon as defeat became imminent. Few survivors escaped the devastated militia to wage guerrilla actions from the forests, and Peregrine Galaxy secured the world for the PGCs within twenty-four hours. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Turkina Keshik Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Because his combined-arms battalion stood at less than full strength, Colonel Matthew Anders defended his world by setting traps and ambushes. His forces destroyed a few OmniMechs and three Elemental Points using this tactic, but the militia's dishonorable" strategy drove the warriors of the Turkina Keshik to hunt down and kill every militia member they could find. Colonel Anders died in his command bunker when two Points of flamer equipped Elementals slipped past the militia lines and destroyed the HQ. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Gyrfalcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Blackjack Training Battalion Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Kommandant Dean Bristow's Blackjack Training Battalion did not expect their first combat experience to be fighting Clan Jade Falcon. The outgunned and inexperienced battalion impressed the Clan warriors by fighting bravely and honorably. Despite suffering an 80 percent casualty rate, they mauled the Second Falcon Jaegers, and a Cadet Mark Harris defeated a Clan OmniMech in an impromptu Trial of Possession for the cadet's family home. The Jade Falcons allowed the battalion to evacuate the planet, though they took some cadets as bondsmen. Many Jade Falcon warriors considered these cadets the most honorable foes the Clans had met in the Inner Sphere, and one Star Colonel later said that the Inner Sphere cadets had passed their Trial of Position. Three months after the battle at Tukayyid, Cadet Mark Harris was positively identified as a Star Commander in Gyrfalcon Galaxy. Clan Steel Viper later occupied the planet, and their first act was to raze the Blackjack School of Conflict. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Seventh Falcon Talon (Iota Galaxy) Defending Forces: 25thArcturan Guards ROT (75 percent strength) Major Battle Sites: Colmar Plains, Hell's Kitchen, and Colmar Spaceport Outcome: The 25th Arcturan Guards arrived on Colmar already tired from heavy fighting in the Clan Wolf invasion corridor to meet the Seventh Falcon Talon, a second-line Cluster fresh from garrison duty. The Jade Falcon Khans decided that in order to catch up to Clan Wolf's rate of conquest, they would bring second-line forces to the front and risk losing a battle or two. The Seventh defeated the 25th Arcturan Guards, but their fighter pilots bungled a deep-space interception that would have annihilated the surviving enemy force. The Seventh's overall performance pleased the Khans. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: First Falcon Velites (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: Demon Company (Mercenary), Denizli Militia Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Following a short battle at the spaceport, the Demon Company abandoned their defensive positions and withdrew into the planet's wilderness. Jade Falcon fighters promptly bombed the mercenary company's main supply depot, preventing the Demons from waging an effective guerrilla campaign. When he realized there was no more point in continuing to fight, the Demons' commander tried to bribe his way into Clan Jade Falcon and was shot to death by an Elemental for his efforts. The Falcons turned the soldiers of the Demon Company over to the local authorities for justice. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: First Falcon Striker (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: First and Second Devin Armored Battalions Major Battle Sites: The Boneyard Outcome: The First and Second Devin Armored attempted to hole off the First Falcon Striker at the Boneyard, the crash site of an old SLDF Texas Class battleship destroyed by Stefan Amaris' navy. The crash produced huge craters and mountains of wreckage, and the planet used the area as a giant salvage yard, eventually accumulating a mass of metal that rivaled Ishlyama Arena or Solaris VII. The piles of metal slowed the fighting and rendered radar and magnetic-anomaly detection devices worthless. 'Mechs and tanks often discovered each other at pointblank range. The Jaegers managed to wipe out both armored battalions, but at the cost of two Stars of OmniMechs. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: 305th Assault Cluster (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: Dompaire Armored Cavalry (one battalion) Major Battle Sites: Dompaire Central Outcome: The 305th Assault Cluster made a bold landing almost on top of Dompaire Central, the planetary capital. Unprepared for the Jade Falcon assault, the planetary defense rallied for a brief counterattack, but the force's old tanks and 'Mechs malfunctioned and broke down under battle stress. The 305th Assault Cluster secured the world by the end of the second day, though terrorist bombings and guerrilla attacks still occur. |
August 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: First Falcon Striker (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Goat Path Militia Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: Clan Jade Falcon chose Goat Path as one of its targets because the planetary administrators allegedly maintained connections to an organized crime family named Malthus. The Bloodnamed of Malthus announced their intention to burn Goat Path to ash if they found any relationship between the Clan Bloodname Malthus and the criminal organization. Fortunately for the people of Goat Path, the Clan's information was incorrect, and the Jade Falcons changed their mission from destruction to conquest. The First Falcon Striker landed on the planet and easily took the spaceport and Capital City. The planet surrendered soon afterward. |
September 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Fourth Falcon Velites (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: None Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The Lyran Commonwealth planet Graus, home to a pacifist movement in for several decades, offered the Fourth Falcon Velites no resistance when they arrived to take the planet. When the planetary council responded to the Falcon Batchall by stating that no forces defended the world, the Jade Falcons assumed they were attempting to deceive the Clan. They discovered that the council had spoken the truth upon landing. Graus assimilated into Falcon society almost effortlessly, though it is unlikely that the planet will ever produce any members of the warrior caste. |
September 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Second Falcon Jaegers (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Defending Forces: Leskovik Militia Major Battle Sites: Leskovik Refinery Outcome: The Leskovik Militia lured Alpha Trinary of the Second Falcon Jaegers into the massive Leskovik Refinery. During the battle, a huge tank of liquid natural gas exploded, consuming invader and defender alike in the firestorm. Subsequent investigation proved that the explosion was accidental, not the result of sabotage or battle damage. Leskovik Refinery remained a ruin, a monument commemorating the brave warriors struck down by fire. |
September-October 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Gyrfalcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Parakoila 'Mech Battalion Major Battle Sites: Forty-Niner Mine, Mainstrike Outcome: Parakoila, a primary source of gold and heavy metals for the Commonwealth, hosted one of the longest battles of the fourth wave of the invasion. The defending 'Mechs converted several of the mines into defensive installations backed by miles of tunnels, rivaling the fortified structure of a Castle Brian. The Jade Falcon Khans wanted the mines intact. Because Gyrfalcon Galaxy could not use planetary bombardment, it was forced to root out the Inner Sphere 'Mechs tunnel by tunnel. They accomplished this task in just over six weeks, the longest time required to conquer any Inner Sphere world. Even after Tukayyid, the Clan Steel Viper garrison on Parakoila occasionally reports 'Mechs emerging from the miles of tunnels to raid Viper supply depots and patrols. |
September- October 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Turkina Keshik,124th Striker Cluster (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: Gray Death Legion (Mercenary), Sudeten Militia Major Battle Sites: Sudeten Spaceport Outcome: The Gray Death Legion, one of the best mercenary units in the Inner Sphere, defended Sudeten by fighting a series of delaying actions to maul the 124th Striker Cluster. The Legion escaped off-planet after the Sudeten Militia's 'Mech company sacrificed itself to hold the Falcons off long enough for the mercenaries to board their Dropships. |
September 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Falcon Guards, Jade Falcon Eyrie Cluster (Jade Falcon Galaxy) Attacking Forces: Tenth Lyran Guards RCT ('Mechs), Ninth Federated Commonwealth RCT, Kell Hounds First and Second Battalions (Mercenary) Major Battle Sites: Plain of Curtains, Great Gash Outcome: |
September-October 3050 Jade Falcon Forces: Emerald Talon Naval Assault Star Defending Forces: Tenth Donegal Guards RCT (25 percent strength), Able Battalion, Third Regiment, Twelfth Star Guards (from Wolf Clan Occupation Zone) Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The gutted Tenth Donegal RCT and the Twelfth Star Guards Third Regiment made a brave stand on Zoetermeer. Apparently possessing nothing the Clans would want, Zoetermeer came under attack for reasons still unknown to the Inner Sphere, though some people suggest a naval depot is hidden somewhere in the system. Khan Chistu ordered the Emerald Talon Assault Star to take the world without resorting to an orbital bombardment, a tactic the Clans abandoned in the wake of Clan Smoke Jaguar's destruction of Turtle Bay in retaliation for that planet's continued resistance. The Khan used the Emerald Talon mainly because he could spare no troops for the assault. Star Admiral Adrian Malthus positioned his ships above the capital city of Hohenzollern and bluffed the planetary forces into surrender by threatening the orbital bombardment he was barred from unleashing. |

FIFTH WAVE (November-December 3051) |
|
TRIALS OF POSSESSION |
November 3051 Jade Falcon Forces: 305th Assault Cluster (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Steel Viper Forces: Viper Guards Cluster Outcome: Though they fought well, the 305th Assault Cluster lost the right to conquer Montmarault to the Viper Guards. Most Falcon warriors blame this defeat on the fact that the Viper Guards were fresh, while the 305th fought in some of the invasion's fiercest battles. |
November 3051 Jade Falcon Forces: First Falcon Striker (Gyrfalcon Galaxy) Steel Viper Forces: 104th Assault Cluster (The Viper's Fangs) Outcome: Over the course of two days, the First Falcon Jaegers and the Viper's 104th Assault Cluster pounded each other into the ground. The trial ended in a draw, and the two Clans shared the conquest and administration of Orkney. Both the Falcon Jaegers and the Viper's 104th regained full strength barely in time for Tukayyid. |
|
WORLDS CONQUERED BY CLAN JADE FALCON |
December 3051 Jade Falcon Forces: Fourth Falcon Talon Cluster, 94th Striker Cluster (Peregrine Galaxy) Defending Forces: Fifth Davion Guards RCT(65 percent strength) Major Battle Sites: Cherbourg, Normandy Outcome: The Fifth Davion Guards RCT, fresh from the Clan Wolf front, used their hard-won knowledge of Clan tactics to avoid the mistakes made by other Federated Commonwealth units earlier in the war. Unfortunately for the Fifth, Clan Jade Falcon had also learned new methods of fighting the Inner Sphere. A Headhunter Star of Elementals assassinated Hauptmann General William Galloway. His aide, Colonel James Allison, led several ambushes against the Jade Falcon forces before he was vaporized in his 'Mech by concentrated fire from an Assault Star of OmniMechs. Clan OmniMechs combined their fire several times during this battle, frequently when Federated Commonwealth Mechwarriors committed some breach of Clan honor, but also from tactical necessity. The Jade Falcons adopted this firing technique specifically to counter Inner Sphere battle tactics. |
December 3051 Jade Falcon Forces: Gyrfalcon Galaxy Defending Forces: Quarell 'Mech Battalion Major Battle Sites: None Outcome: The Quarell 'Mech Battalion tried to use the hit-and-run tactics that other units had used successfully against the Clans, but failed. Using fighter surveillance and orbital 'Mech drops, the Gyrfalcon Galaxy warriors ran down the Quarell 'Mechs and, enraged over their recent losses to Clan Steel Viper, exceeded even their usual ruthlessness. Only six members of the Quarell 'Mech Battalion survived to become bondsmen. |

Ghost Bear Invasion Waves: |
|
THE PERIPHERY |
September 3049 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Star Captain Ian DelVillar (Alpha OmniMech Star, the Ourse Keshik) Defending Forces: Mechwarrior Uchi Tikidomo (former DCMS officer) Major Battle Site: Deson Ranch Outcome: After serving with distinction in the War of 3039, Uchi Tikimodo retired to Porthos, where he lived peacefully until the Clans came. Porthos had no defenses, and Clan Ghost Bear expected no resistance. Much to their surprise, they were met upon landing by Tikimodo in his Archer. He offered the Bears the chance to fight for possession of the world and the Ghost Bears immediately accepted his challenge. Star Captain DelVillar won the right to fight the DCMS Mechwarrior, squaring off his Blackhawk against the Archer. The fight was a mismatch, but Tikimodo's tenacity in the face of impossible odds so impressed Star Captain DelVillar that he agreed to employ Tikimodo as a liaison between the planetary government and Porthos's new Clan rulers. |
FIRST WAVE (March-April 3050) |
THULE (FRR) March 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 139th Striker Cluster (Alpha Galaxy), 304th Assault Cluster (Beta Galaxy), 73rd Battle Cluster (Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: First Husars Major Battle Site: Fresdon Desert Outcome: |
DAMIEN (FRR) March 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 34th Striker Trinary (Eighth Bear Cuirassiers, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: The Black Omen (a mercenary company) Major Battle Site: None Outcome: The 34th landed with high hopes of finishing off the defenders in short order, but after six days of fruitless searching decided that the Black Omen must have left Damien before the Bears arrived. The Ghost Bears left a small garrison on the planet and moved on. Two months later, the Black Omen mercenary company came out of hiding and overran the garrison, forcing the Bears to retake the planet during the second wave of the invasion. The Black Omen's "treachery," as the Ghost Bears see it, accounts for much of that Clan's well-known hatred of mercenaries. |
HOLMSBU (FRR) March 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 43rd Elemental Support Trinary (1 2th Bear Chevaliers, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Seventh and Eighth Corrugated Lancers (2 armored regiments supported by infantry) Major Battle Sites: Redwood, Linden's Bluff Outcome: The Lancers were ill-prepared for a fight with battlearmored Elementals and fell quickly to the Clan troops' superior weapons and training. The Ghost Bears readily accepted the Lancers' surrender. |
PINNACLE (FRR) March 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha and Bravo Assault Stars (71st Assault Trinary, 140th Striker Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: The Pinnacle Guardsmen (1 regiment of mechanized infantry) Major Battle Site: Lodan Factory. Outcome: The Ghost Bear OmniMechs overran the infantry regiment, booting it out of its hardened positions within hours of landing. |
CONSTANCE (DC) April 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 68th Striker Cluster (Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: The Honor Guard (5 companies of 'Mechs, 2 armor regiments) Major Battle Sites: Cedar Groves, Hartmond Hills Outcome: In this savage battle, both sides resorted to ambushes and other devious tactics. The Honor Guard went so far as to poison the general water supply, wrongly assuming that the Bears did not have their own reserves. The Ghost Bears labeled the Honor Guard dezgra after this incident; Star Colonel Chou Vong used it as an excuse to call down his entire Cluster and finish the battle quickly. The Honor Guard, however, used hit-and-run guerrilla attacks to deny the Bears a swift victory. The 68th chased the Honor Guard's elite armor regiments for five days, whittling down the Inner Sphere forces through attrition. |
SECOND WAVE (May 3050) |
SUSGUEHANNA (FRR) May 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 96th Battle Trinary (14th Battle Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Regal Death (a mercenary company supported by 2 battalions of heavy armor) Major Battle Sites: Silver Lake, Vernaw Woods Outcome: The 96th landed at the location agreed to in the batchall, but landed to discover their opponents had failed to show. Remembering the vanished Black Omen mercenary company on Damien, the 96th went hunting but expected to find no opposition. Bravo Battle Star walked straight into a Regal Death ambush in the Vernaw Woods, where the mercs had retreated to prepared positions upon detecting the Bears' arrival in system. Pit traps and minefields destroyed three of Bravo's OmniMechs; concentrated weapons fire took down a fourth and seriously damaged the fifth. Fortunately-for the lone Ghost Bear survivor, the other two stars of the battle Trinary arrived in time to make short work of the mercenaries. The Bears fought with such a ferocity that not a single Regal Death soldier survived the assault. After this engagement, many Ghost Bear commanders declared all mercenary units dezgra, unworthy of honorable treatment and fit only for immediate destruction. Upon encountering mercenaries after the battle for Susquehanna, Ghost Bear leaders rarely bothered issuing a batchall and almost never claimed bondsmen from mercenary ranks. |
JARETT (DC) May 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Trinary Galaxy Command, 310th Assault Trinary, 17th Battle Trinary (First Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Ninth Alshain Regulars Major Battle Site: Sulen Jungles Outcome: |
TRONDHEIM (FRR) May 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: frinary Command, Twelfth Battle Trinary, 34th Fighter Binary (Third Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Trondheim Freedom Defenders (2 mechanized infantry regiments, 1 aerospace wing, 2 battalions of heavy armor, 1 'Mech company) Major Battle Sites: Misby Flats, Lava Web, Millargro Outcome: The Defenders fought a versatile mobile campaign across most of the world's largest continents. Early in the battle, the Defenders led a Star of Ghost Bear 'Mechs onto the Lava Web, a flat plain of lava whose top crust is alternately thin and thick enough to support the weight of light 'Mechs or armor. The heavy Bear OmniMechs broke through the crust and sank into the molten stone beneath. Eager to avenge their fallen comrades, the rest of the Bear forces hunted down the Defenders from the open fields of Millargro to the crowded streets of Misby Flats, where they finally pinned the Defenders down and obliterated them. |
THIRD WAVE (June-July 3050) |
LAST FRONTIER (FRR) June 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: The Silverroot Keshik, the Ourse Keshik, 310th Assault Trinary (First Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: First Freemen Major Battle Sites: Brighton Rock, Ascension Outcome: |
RADIJE (FRR) July 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha Nova Star (Supernova Echo, 11 5th Striker Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Twelfth Rasalhagian Dragoons Free Company (4'Mech lances supported by an infantry battalion) Major Battle Site: Lochsdown Outcome: The Twelfth Dragoons refused to respond to the Bears' batchall, and the insulted Bears hunted them for three full days. Tired of the chase, the Bears showed the planet's defenders little mercy when they finally caught up with them. The Clan units saturated the field with weapons fire and refused all offers of surrender until they had destroyed every last Rasalhagian 'Mech. Only then did the Bears accept the surrender of the rest of the Free Company. For this undisciplined action, Star Captain Marialle Hawkins received an official reprimand and served two months on garrison duty getting to know the people she had conquered. |
POLICENIGO (DC) July 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 321st Assault Trinary (304th Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Policenigo Guard (1 infantry regiment, 1 'Mech battalion) Major Battle Sites: 43rd Regional Correctional Facility, Park Mountains Outcome: |
FOURTH WAVE (August-October 3050) |
VIPAAVA (FRR) August 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha Battle Star (23rd Battle Trinary), Alpha Nova Star (76th Supernova) (14th Battle Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: 22nd Rasalhagian Free Company (1 'Mech company, 2 regiments of infantry) Major Battle Site: Lion's Den Outcome: The 22nd Free Company attempted to fight with honor, challenging the Bears to a stand-up fight at the Lion's Den, a massive rock outcropping far from Vipaava's cities and towns. The Bears, suspecting a trap, approached the site cautiously. To their surprise, they found the Free Company arranged as promised in the batchall. Alpha Nova Star of Beta Galaxy's 76th Supernova engaged the defenders first, decimating the unit and forcing the Rasalhagians to surrender. This engagement helped convince Rasalhagian commanders that they could not win a straight fight against Clan forces and would have to develop new tactics. |
JEZERSKO (FRR) September 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 31 Oth Assault Trinary, Alpha Fighter Star (16th Fighter Binary, First Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: First and Second Jezersko Brigade (2 regiments of armor) Major Battle Sites: Hell's Ridge, Pleasure Grotto Outcome: The 310th stormed the Jezersko Brigades as soon as they spotted the defenders' tanks. Using their weight to their advantage, the Bears picked their opponents apart. The Brigades attempted to outmaneuver the Bears, but the Clan forces moved too swiftly for them. The Brigades scrambled to the Pleasure Grotto, where they had set up remote-firing weapons and vibrabombs. The pursuing Bears easily sidestepped most of these, but found it more difficult than they expected to rout out the defenders. They finally resorted to aerial bombardment, forcing both defending units into the open where the Ghost Bear 'Mechs dispatched them. |
POMME DE TERRE (FRR) September 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha Command Star (Trinary Command, 139th Striker Cluster, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: None Major Battle Site: None Outcome: Several of the planet's prominent politicians had heard reports of high civilian casualties during battles against the seemingly unstoppable Clans. Because only a small planetary militia defended their planet, the politicians appealed to the ruling council of Pomme de Terre to surrender without a fight, reminding those who wavered of Clan Ghost Bear's equitable treatment of occupied populations. After days of debate, mere minutes before Star Colonel Stephan Huntsig issued his batchall, the Council made its decision. Pomme de Terre surrendered unconditionally to Clan Ghost Bear, and the Clan left only a small garrison on the world. |
PREDLITZ (FRR) September 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 2133rd Striker Trinary, 469th Assault Trinary (332nd Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: 17th, 20th, and 31st Rasalhagian Free Divisions (1 'Mech battalion, 2 regiments of armor) Major Battle Sites: Warm Line, Durengo, Billy's Tears Outcome: In the face of overwhelming opposition, the Rasalhagians fought a mobile defense, dashing from supply cache to supply cache with the Bears in hot pursuit. Each Free Division made a separate stand, and the Clan forces overran the defenders each time. Near the craggy cliffs known as Billy's Tears, the Bears discovered a supply cache that no Free Division had yet reached. Rather than take it, the 2133rd hid in the crags and waited for the Free Divisions to come and get their supplies. When the Rasalhagians appeared, the 2133rd pounced and wiped them out. |
SPITTAL (FRR) September 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha Striker Star (141st Striker Trinary), Trinary Command (140th Striker Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Third and Fourth Spittal Knights (2 Mech companies, 1 battalion of infantry) Major Battle Sites: Rutger's Pass, Swerve Pass Outcome: The Bear forces chased the Knights' 'Mechs into Rutger's Pass, where the Rasalhagians had set up a vibrabomb field. When the vibrabombs failed to explode, the Knights were forced to retreat to their fallback position in Swerve Pass. The Bears followed them straight into the firing line of the Knights' infantry battalion. The Bears used their jump jets for the first time, rising out of the pass onto the ledges from which the infantry troops were firing at them. With the infantry's defeat, the remaining 'Mech forces fell quickly. |
CASERE (FRR) September 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Third Bear Guards (Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Second Husars Major Battle Site: Hemmond Industries sector Outcome: |
GOITO (FRR) October 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Supernova Command (First Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: The Hunting Revelers (2 armor battalions) Major Battle Site: Apache Canyon Outcome: The relentless advance of the Clan troops broke the morale of the green Revelers, whose clumsy retreat into Apache Canyon sealed their fate. |
SOVERZENE (DC) October 3050 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Beta Galaxy Defending Forces: Second Alshain Regulars, 27th Dieron Regulars Major Battle Sites: Averti, Killimangero Fjords |
|
FIFTH WAVE (November 3051-April 3052) |
THESSALONIKA (DC) November 3051 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Delta Galaxy Defending Forces: Eighth Alshain Regulars, Twelfth Sun Zhang Academy Cadre Major Battle Sites: Dorian Cove, Guerdel practice fields, Verdandra, Holy Marsh Outcome: |
KEMPTEN (FRR) December 3051 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 712th Assault Trinary (Twelfth Bear Chevaliers, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Kempten Border Legion Major Battle Sites: Precious Plight, Sacrifice Mound Outcome: The Border Legion, a collection of aging warriors in ancient 'Mechs and armored vehicles, faced the Clan invasion with the bleak knowledge that the Rasalhagian government could spare no troops to aid them. The warriors of the Twelfth Bear Chevaliers, having heard of the Smoke Jaguars' defeat on Wolcott, were apprehensive when the Legion engaged them in batchall, but nonetheless agreed to a stand-up fight in Precious Plight, an amusement park. The Bears landed in the middle of a disorienting carnival of light and sound. Legionnaires had hung mirrors at all angles to confuse the Clan 'Mechs' scanners, and the Twelfth initially had difficulty spotting the enemy forces. Firing from cover, the Legion's Devastator battalion inflicted considerable damage on the stunned Bears in its opening volley. Recovering quickly, the 712th fanned out and destroyed the Legion's less-mobile tanks, then pursued the remainder of the Legion to Sacrifice Mound and destroyed them. |
KAESONG (DC) December 3051 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Trinary Command (14th Battle Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Blue Lightning (a mercenary company) Major Battle Site: Vedsan City Outcome: JumpShip trouble stranded the Blue Lightning on Kaesong just before the Ghost Bears' invasion of the planet. When the Bears arrived insystem, the Kaesong government pleaded with the mercenaries to defend their planet, but the mercenaries' agreement did more harm than good. Knowing that his troops would face dezgra mercenaries, Star Colonel Dane Jorgensson skipped the bidding process and simply sent in the elite Trinary Command to deal with the Lightning. Outgunned and outnumbered, the mercenaries retreated to the streets of Vedsan, where the Ghost Bears rooted them out and destroyed them. |
SHELIAK (DC) December 3051 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 78th Elemental Support Binary (68th Striker Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Sheliak Professional Football League Major Battle Site: Kurita Stadium Outcome: Hearing of Clan Ghost Bear's imminent arrival over Sheliak, the planetary government panicked. As a minor planet with few resources and little strategic value to the Draconis Combine, they had no military to defend them. In an all-night session with the terrified governors, football commissioner Jimmy "Straight Jim" Lorne proposed a bold plan. Confident that the Clans knew nothing of the game of football, he suggested that the Sheliak Professional Football League challenge the invaders to a game. If the Clans won, they could claim the planet; if they lost, Sheliak would remain free of Clan occupation. Because it was the only chance they had, the governors agreed to Straight Jim's plan. To their surprise, the Clans agreeo to play. Straight Jim, however, had not counted on facing a team of eight-foot-tall Elementals, nor had he expected the Clans to know the rules of the game. (Few Inner Sphere citizens even suspected that the Clans would continue to play the sports common to 20th century Terra.) The dismayed leaders and people of Sheliak could only watch as the Ghost Bear team devastated the Sheliak All-Star team, 84 to 3. The planetary government handed Sheliak over to the Ghost Bears during the postgame show. |
ALSHAIN (DC) December 3051 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha Galaxy Defending Forces: Sixth Alshain Regulars, Second Sword of Light Major Battle Site: Polotmy Mountains, Fareer Canyons Outcome: |
TINACA (DC) January 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Bravo Supernova (1 15th Striker Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: First Sun Zhang Academy Cadre Major Battle Site: Nearmiss Outcome: Knowing that the warriors of Bravo Supernova faced mere cadets, the commander of the 11 5th Striker Cluster ordered them to capture as many opponents alive as possible and make them bondsmen. The cadets, however, disregarded their own orders to surrender and threw themselves at the Bear 'Mechs as soon as the Clan force landed, engaging in death from above attacks and other desperate tactics in an all-out assault. The Bear warriors had no choice but to respond in kind, quickly turning the battle into a bloodbath. The Supernova's commander, Star Captain Eclore DelVillar, ordered her Elementals to enter the fray and pry the cadets from their 'Mech cockpits, and ordered her MechWarriors to aim at the legs of the enemy 'Mechs. Using these tactics, the 115th captured a full battalion of cadets. |
MARAWI (DC) January 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 332nd Assault Cluster (Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: 41st Dieron Regulars Major Battle Sites: Brossard Woods, Deep Cove, Hull Outcome: Expecting little serious opposition from the green 41st Dieron Regulars, Star Colonel Seija Harlow prepared for a short campaign. The Bears dropped east of the 41st, straight into a barrage of artillery. As the Bear 'Mechs sought cover, Star Colonel Harlow unleashed her fighters to find the guns. A wing of old-style fighter planes intercepted the Clan aerospace units, but the Bears blew the defenders out of the sky within 20 minutes. They then sought out the gun emplacements and razed them to the ground. No longer trapped by artillery fire, the 332nd slammed into the 41st from the left flank, rolling up the green unit as it went. The Bears made short work of the 41st, pursuing the retreating unit to the town of Hull along the roads leading to it from Brossard Woods. The Bear aerospace fighters caught the defenders just shy of the city and crushed them. |
HALESOWEN (DC) January 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Alpha, Tango Stars (Trinary Command, 140th Striker Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: The Halesowen Protectors (11 'Mech company, 1 regiment of infantry) Major Battle Site: Corlene Steppes Outcome: Striking at high noon, the Bears swept over the entrenched infantry and headed straight for the 'Mechs. The retreating Protectors turned the tables briefly by luring both Clan Stars into a well set-up ambush. The defenders' infantry regiment attacked from both sides of the Clan force, downing seven OmniMechs before the Bears extricated themselves from the trap. At their commanding officer's order, the rest of Trinary Command dropped onto the planet and encircled the ambush site. The Protectors, trapped in turn, called in an artillery strike which distracted the Bears long enough for the 'Mechs and infantry to slip past the Clan blockade. Determined not to lose, Star Colonel Jorgensson broke his bid and called down his own air units. The Bear fighters strafed the Protectors and forced them to retreat into the wide-open Corlene Steppes, where the Bear'Mechs easily defeated them. |
STERNWERDE (DC) January 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: First Bear Guards (Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Seventh Alshain Regulars Major Battle Sites: Lone Hill, Marlet, Dearborne Lake, Hideaway Outcome: The First Bear Guards dropped from heavy cloud cover and engaged the Seventh Alshain in a running fight, surging along the Seventh's first line of defense. Upon reaching the center of the line, the Bears punched through it and spread out to take down as many opponents from behind as they could. Tai-sa Gerber Shazil, however, foiled this tactic by swiftly ordering his troops to turn and charge through the Bear lines. The Regulars smashed through the Bears and marched into the waters of Dearborne Lake. The First Bear Guards followed and chased the Regulars out of the water, but briefly lost the fleeing Inner Sphere unit in a blinding rainstorm. In the final showdown near the Regulars' Dropships at dawn the next day, elements of the Seventh sacrificed themselves to ensure the escape of the bulk of the unit. |
MAULE (DC) February 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 433rd Supernova Trinary (73rd Battle Cluster, Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: The Sixth and 43rd Maule Armored Brigades Major Battle Site: Billowing Leaf Outcome: Though the Ghost Bears easily wiped out the planet's defenders outside the town of Billowing Leaf, the people of Maule initially made life miserable for the occupying Clan forces. As soon as the 433rd departed, leaving behind a Provisional Garrison Cluster, local people began staging round-the-clock protests at the Clan administrator's headquarters. Realizing that they could not imprison everyone on Maule for "treasonous activities," the Ghost Bear authorities heeded the people's grievances and agreed to give the citizens a limited degree of freedom, even allowing them to travel under Clan supervision. Because Maule is currently one of the few planets in Clanheld space that regularly trades with the Inner Sphere, the 304th Assault Cluster defends the world from the possibility of attack by Inner Sphere forces. |
ARDOZ (DC) February 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Trinary Command (Third Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Unknown Major Battle Sites: Unknown Outcome: No information concerning events on Ardoz has been available since the Ghost Bears captured the world. Rumors abound that the Bears discovered a Star League base on the planet, but these rumors cannot be confirmed. The destruction of Ardoz's HPG facility in the initial attack has resulted in a total information blackout from the planet; the Ghost Bears are refusing to let any ComStar representatives rebuild, and they have said nothing about the situation on the world. |
SETUBAL (DC) February 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 50th Striker Cluster (Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: 21st Benjamin Regulars Major Battle Sites: Marcil's Noose, Creation Fields Outcome: The 21st Regulars split their forces and deployed the two halves about two kilometers apart, hoping the Bears would do likewise. Against a divided Clan force, the Regulars could slowly close the gap between their two halves and destroy the Bears with their combined strength. Star Colonel Stephan Huntsig, however, massed his entire unit against half of the defenders. As he had hoped, the green warriors cracked and charged toward the other half of their unit for help with the Bears in hot pursuit. The other half of the 21st, not knowing who was charging over the hill toward them, began firing into the pack, hitting as many friendlies as enemies. The 50th Striker Cluster hit the rest of the 21st at full steam and plowed straight through them. Soon thereafter, the green 21st surrendered. |
UTRECHT (FRR) March 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: The Ourse Keshik Defending Forces: None Major Battle Site: None Outcome: Utrecht surrendered to the Ghost Bears without a fight, and Khan Jorgensson personally signed the treaty of occupation. Among the planet's resources is a large supply of natural alloys that the Clans find particularly useful in manufacturing ferro-fibrous armor, and so the Bears have set up a large-scale mining operation to extract the ore. |
EGUILLES (DC) March 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 115th Striker Cluster (Delta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Fourth Arkab Legion Major Battle Sites: Rockclift, Carstairs Plains, Island Tropics Outcome: The 115th landed just north of the Fourth Arkab's main encampment and immediately launched a series of stinging raids. Using the flexibility of the OmniMech to its fullest potential, they thwarted all enemy attempts to determine the number and composition of the Clan forces. Because the Fourth had not responded to the batchall, its warriors could could only assume that they were vastly outnumbered. Tai-sa Sajulam Kosiridarn and his officers opted for a suicide charge into the center of the enemy lines; much to their surprise, the 115th broke and retreated under the weight of the assault. The Ghost Bears turned and made a stand on Carstairs Plains, where Star Colonel Romano Tseng engaged in one-on-one combat against two members of the Fourth while her Cluster kept the rest of the defending unit busy. In the second one-on-one battle, the Fourth's commander destroyed Tseng's 'Mech. The death of their Star Colonel demoralized the embattled 115th Strikers; leaderless and perilously low on ammunition, they ran before the Fourth's furious assault all the way back to their Dropships at Rockclift. There, they reconfigured their 'Mechs for laser weapons and awaited their pursuers. The Fourth caught up with the 115th and surrounded them, expecting victory, but the Legion's second battalion collapsed under a heavy Bear counterattack. Choosing to live and fight another day, the Fourth ran for their Dropships and lifted off, their retreat largely unchallenged by the exhausted Ghost Bear force. |
KRIENICE (DC) March 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: Twelfth Bear Chevaliers (Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group Major Battle Sites: Bellow Canyon, LightDraught Woods, Hasnorvan Outcome: From concealed positions amid the natural crags in Bellow Canyon, the Fifth Amphigean unleashed a rain of devastating fire on the Ghost Bear 'Mechs as soon as the Clan forcQs landed. They then scattered throughout the rock formations and raided the Clan's supply lines, disrupted communications, and even launched an occasional assault. The Twelfth's heavy 'Mechs spent most of their time chasing the lighter, swifter machines of the Fifth, and eventually flushed them from hiding using air assets. The Bear 'Mechs herded the Fifth toward the city of Hasnorvan, in the opposite direction from the Fifth's Dropships. Making the best of a bad situation, Tai-sa Helen Cassidy ordered small numbers of troops to detach from the Fifth's main body and engage in hit-andrun assaults against the pursuing Bears. In one evening raid, a company of the Fifth led the Twelfth on a merry chase through LightDraught Woods for two hours, until the Bear warriors got lost and called on aerospace observers to guide them out of the trackless forest. Just outside Hasnorvan, the Twelfth took the Fifth by surprise. Star Colonel Douglas Silva had ordered the 63rd Assault Trinary to march toward the city ahead of the Ghost Bears' main body and dig in, and so the 63rd was waiting as the Fifth approached the city's outskirts. As soon as the Fifth came within firing range of the dug-in Clan 'Mechs, all the Clan forces opened up on the defenders. The web of interlocking fire decimated the Fifth within hours. |
MANNEDORF (DC) March 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 72nd Assault Trinary, First Elemental Support Binary (304th Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: The GoldMiners ('Mech company) Major Battle Site: Silvermain Mines Outcome: The Bears bid fiercely for the right to destroy the mercenaries, who made their stand in the Silvermain Mines. The Miners packed explosives into every nook and cranny they could find, intending to bury the 72nd under a ton of rubble. When the Ghost Bears entered the mine, the mercenaries triggered the explosives, and rejoiced in their apparent victory-prematu rely. Unknown to the GoldMiners, a Star League base had been built beneath and behind the mine shafts; the 72nd, overhearing the mercenaries' plan via an intercepted transmission, had sent Elementals ahead of the 'Mechs to open the doors to the base's tunnel network. Just before the explosives went off, the 72nd slipped to safety through the hidden entrances to the Star League base. The GoldMiners emerged from the rear exit of the mine to find the 72nd waiting for them. |
TOFFEN (DC) March 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 469th Assault Trinary (332nd Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy) Defending Forces: Third and Eighth Toffen Guards (2 'Mech companies, 1 regiment of infantry) Major Battle Sites: Dell Reservoir, Longueil Power Plant Outcome: The major metropolitan centers of Toffen lay beneath Dell Reservoir. Gambling that the Ghost Bears would not use their aerospace strength in order to avoid damaging the cities they had come to conquer, the Third and Eighth made their initial stand at Dell. Faced with only a single Trinary, the defenders moved forward, confident of victory against a mere fifteen 'Mechs. The Bears, however, had other ideas. They easily routed the green defenders and followed the retreating units to the abandoned Longueil power plant, three kilometers away. There, the Guards' infantry elements used the abundant large metal cylinders as excellent cover while they sowed the plant with explosives. While the frustrated Ghost Bears opened every old generator and looked inside for the enemy, the troopers of the Third and Eighth slipped a few at a time out of the building. Scenting an Inner Sphere trap, Star Captain Pinter Hall led the 469th out of the plant just before it detonated. The angry Ghost Bears hunted down the remainder of the defenders, but many of the Guards escaped and went to ground. The planetary garrison is still dealing with occasional flare-ups of violence from surviving Toffen Guards. |
RUBIGEN (DC) April 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: First Bear Guards (Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Fourth Alshain Regulars Major Battle Sites: Gibbon's Reality Park, SouthBell, Granite Bluffs, Lodo Spaceport Outcome: The Fourth sent its Aerowing to attack the Ghost Bear Dropships, but the Ghost Bear vessels downed most of the aerospace fighters. The Bears landed safely inside Gibbon's Reality Park, a giant virtual-reality center with highquality holographic projecting. Finding themselves unexpectedly surrounded by three regiments, the Bear guards began firing, only to discover that several of their opponents were holographic projections. The Fourth, hidden amid the illusions, used the Bears' confusion to swarm the Clan unit. Star Colonel Whover ordered his 'Mechs to fire at anything that gave off a signal and shed heat, meanwhile directing his Elementals to find and shut down the holographs' power source. The Elementals succeeded in their task, only to find that the 'Mechs of the Fourth had vanished. The Star Colonel sent a headhunter squad to hunt down the Fourth's leader, Tai-sa Boris Timsjek, but the Elementals failed to find him. The Bear Guards pursued the elusive Fourth for the better part of a month, with little success; every time the Guards thought they had the Kurita soldiers pinned down, the Fourth vanished from beneath their gunsights. After three solid weeks of fighting, Tai-sa Timsjek realized that his unit could only delay the Clan's takeover of Rubigen, and that retreat was a wiser course than fighting until the last man was destroyed. The remainder of the Fourth boarded the unit's Dropships and lifted off under heavy fire from the First Bear Guards. Less than a battalion of the Fourth Alshain Regulars |
July 3052 Clan Ghost Bear Forces: 310th Assault Trinary, 117th Battle Trinary, Supernova Command (First Bear Guards, Alpha Galaxy) Defending Forces: Seventh Provisional Garrison Cluster (Clan Smoke Jaguar) Major Battle Site: Santander's Jewel Outcome: Clan Ghost Bear took Santander's World from Clan Smoke Jaguar in a Trial of Possession, as a test of their rebuilt fighting strength and as payback for having so narrowly lost the bidding war for the world during the conquest of the Periphery. Newly re-formed after the Battle of Tukayyid, the First Bear Guards hammered the Smoke Jaguar forces in a fiercely fought Trial of Possession. The Ghost Bears used what they considered flexible tactics to win; Clan Smoke Jaguar called the Bears' strategy "contemptible Inner Sphere skullduggery," and Khan Brandon Howell demanded that the ilKhan rebuke the Bears for un-Clanlike behavior. IlKhan Kerensky ruled that the Bears, like all Clans, had the right to engage in battles as they saw fit. If the Smoke Jaguars had a problem with the way the Bears chose to conduct themselves, they had the right to call for the appropriate trials. This response temporarily cowed Khan Howell, but border disputes continue to flare between the two Clans. |
Battles of Clan Ghost Bear Forces in the InvasionThis table lists what Ghost Bear frontline units took part in a battle during the inavsion. It doesn't list every trinary in the three galaxies though, as some only took part as a larger entity (in a Cluster or the whole Galaxy). In other words, where the whole Galaxy fought the subunits are not listed. The world where the battle occured is listed next to the Galaxy instead of a subunit. If a whole cluster fought, the world is respectively listed next to that cluster, not the subunits or the Galaxy. Where only part of the cluster fought, the individual trinaries/binaries involved are credited. Note that in some cases it might appear as if every subunit is credited (see the 3rd Bear Guards) but in reality it only means that that there are additional trinaries/binaries that have not been listed. More than one galaxy or elements of them might have participated in attacking a world. Galaxies are distinguished by bold letters and underlining. Clusters are underlined and below them are listed individual trinaries/binaries. There are some foot notes also, be sure to check them out for additional information. Oh well, it should all become clear when you read through this list.
[1] Quelled a rebellion on the conquered planet [2] 312th Assault Trinary overrun during a rebellion but not disbanded, probably because some survivors retreated to wait for reinforcements. [3] The 17th Battle Trinary is probably the 117th Battle Trinary (typo, I suspect) [4] Trinary was either destroyed or transferred by the end of 3052 [5] 139th Striker became the foundation of Omega Galaxy in 3055 [6] 7th Bear Guards destroyed in the Tukayyid battle [7] 20th Polar Bear disbanded after Tukayyid due to huge losses
