Jez Howell
Star Captain, (deceased), Clan Smoke Jaguar

Jez was from the same Howell sibko as Russou and Trent. Slim, with a musclular frame, dark hair, and slanted orientalish eyes, she looked similar to most of the others in her sibko. Her skin was normally well tanned and her long hair was usually in a braid behind her back.

Ever since the beginning, Jez was competitive to the point of cruelty. She had a mean streak to feed, and always desired to defeat and hurt anyone in her quest to be first, especially her sibmate Trent. Jez often went farther than many warriors would with her cruel streak. She took any opportunity she could to insult Trent, egg him into a fight, or bring him down. Jez's fierce spirit and physical strength were high, but her tactics were weak and her intentions easy to read, which unsually resulted in her losing to Trent in fights because he was very intelligent and skilled. Nonetheless, she was always desiring to cause him pain.

During the Battle of Tukayyid, Star Captain Trent saved Jez's life. Both warriors lost their 'Mechs in the battle, and Trent became seriouly burned and needed medical attention. In an act of backstabbing for selfish reasons, Jez made up her side of the battle story since there were no surviving cockpit recorders from either 'Mech. She decided to report to superiors that she had saved Trent, and that he was cowardly in the battle and retreated. Only after his weeks of unconsciousness and healing in the hospital were over did Trent discover Jez's lie to the commanders. Her deceit, and the failure of the Smoke Jaguars at Tukayyid were two turning points beginning a path that would ultimately ruin Trent's relationship with his superiors, and his military career.

Jez liked Warhawk assault OmniMechs, and prefered piloting them over other 'Mechs. When the technology became popular, Star Captain Jez had tatoolike neuro circuits inplanted in her head so that she would not need to use a neural helmet to pilot her 'Mech. The implants had a tendency to make her act strange.

Star Captain Jez had the backing of Star Colonel Paul Moon and Khan Lincoln Osis. Because of Jez'z strong Crusader bias, and because they thought Trent fought poorly during the battle of Tukayyid, they preferred her over Trent for eligability to fight in the upcoming Trial for the Howell Bloodname. Khan Osis swayed Star Colonel Benjamin Howell to change his nomination for Trent to the Howell contest instead to Jez. Prior to Star Captain Trent's attempt to fight a Grand Melee to be a member of the Howell Trial of Bloodright, Jez acted in a very stravag manner under secret cover. With Paul Moon's backing, she had Star Captain Trent's Timber Wolf sabotaged so that the 'Mech would fail him during his Trial of Bloodright. Trent eventually figured out that it was probably Jez Howell or Paul Moon who sabotaged his 'Mech. Jez won the Trial of Bloodright and was rewarded as a member of the Blood House Howell.

In his frustration with her wickedness, arrogance and deceit, Trent killed Jez Howell while in a battle against the Inner Sphere. He launched a missile salvo aimed at the cockpit of her 'Mech while it stood damaged and defenseless. Trent's Comstar bondsman Judith Faber later fudged Trent's cockpit recorder to make it look like an Inner Sphere 'Mech sent the deadly salvo into Jez's Warhawk.

Star Captain Trent was sent to the homeworlds to bring Jez's giftake to the Smoke Jaguar genetic repository.

Jez Howell's favorite 'Mech to pilot was the Warhawk.
