Overview: First fighting the Inner Sphere in the battle of Luthien, this OmniMech soon earned the name Cauldron-Born, after the unstoppable zombies of Irish myth, because of its ability to take immense damage and remain operational.

Capabilities: The Cauldron-Born's arsenal is built around a massive Gauss Rifle, which occupies the 'Mech's entire right arm. A dual-purpose Autocannon occupies the left arm. The Cauldron-Born carries two tons of ammunition for each of these weapons. An LRM-10 launcher juts above the birdlike 'Mech's left shoulder, while an SRM-2 launcher in an over-and-under mount fills the machine's right breast. A single ER Medium Laser is the Cauldron-Born's only energy weapon.
Alternate configuration A carries a mammoth Autocannon in its right torso. Three tons of ammunition ensures the pilot will not run out of close-range firepower too early in the fight. ER Large Lasers and Heavy Machine Guns are mounted in each arm. The right arm also supports a Medium Pulse Laser, while the left carries an anti-infantry Flamer. A trio of ER Medium Lasers sprout from the machine's left torso. Two of these weapons fire into the 'Mech's rear arc.
The Cauldron-Born B carries an arsenal of energy weapons. Each arm carries an ER PPC and a Large Pulse Laser in side-by-side mounts. The machine's torso mounts a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers. An Active Probe and Target Acquisition Gear allow the pilot to detect hidden enemy units.
Alternate configuration C boasts a pair of LRM-15 launchers and a pair of SRM-6 launchers, with two tons of ammo provided for each. A pair of Ultra Autocannons allows the Cauldron-Born C to place accurate, effective fire on an enemy's position.

Deployment: In 3058, only the First Jaguar Guard Cluster used the Cauldron-Born. Because only three machines engaged Inner Sphere warriors, the I.S. realized the design must be so new that the other Clans have not yet deployed this 'Mech. Clan warriors taken prisoner in the Kado-guchi Valley provided the Inner Sphere with information on the B and C variants.

Cauldron Born

Chassis Summary:
Easily configured for a variety of missions, and well armored for a 65 ton chassis, the Cauldron Born is a powerful mech well suited to support roles. BAP makes it well suited to scouting, and Enhanced Optics help to create a capable sniper.

Poor chassis performance plagues an otherwise fine design, it's speed is unremarkable and it's agility is scarcely better than the 90 ton Highlander, this along with inadequate torso performance limits it's effectiveness in close range contests.

TACTICAL:
The Cauldron Born has many excellent qualities, it's BAP and Enhanced Optics coupled with generous weapons configurability can combine to create an outstanding sniper, or other long range support mech. It's design presents a low profile, perfect for engaging targets from behind cover or from the high ground. It can also be fitted with enough missiles to create a significant long range support unit, capable of deploying quickly and able to attack at maximun range with great precision. It carries much of it's weaponry in its torso, making it more survivable.

It's chassis performance can only be described as miserable for a 65 ton mech, and the Cauldron Born does not distinguish itself in any performance category. Agility is on a par with much heavier mechs, and this makes it highly vulnerable to more capable close range designs such as the Thor. It lacks Jump Jets, like the Clan Loki, another 65 ton chassis, but it lacks the Loki's excellent acceration and deceleration rates, as well as it's speed. Though many of it's weapons are located in the torso, all of it's valuable Omni slots are in the arms. It's highly exposed missile racks are also prone to being destroyed by sharp eyed snipers.
