Overview: Inner Sphere MechWarriors nicknamed this 'Mech the Puma as a tribute to its ferocity. Though light and fast enough for scouting missions, the Adder can stand up to many Inner Sphere medium 'Mechs. It packs exceptional firepower for a light 'Mech, and many MechWarriors in the Successor States got a nasty surprise the first time they faced it in battle. The Flamer in the Adder's center torso is one of the few fixed weapons on an OmniMech.

Capabilities: When an Adder pilot expects heavy combat, he or she uses the 'Mech's most common configuration-double ER Particle Projection Cannons, one in each arm. The ER PPCs deliver heavy damage, and the advanced Targeting Computer gives them devastating accuracy.

Alternate Configuration A turns the Adder into a fire-support 'Mech. The double LRM-20 racks on the arms can deliver enormous damage from afar, softening up the enemy for the Adder's Starmates. To deal with enemies that get too close, this design mounts a Small Pulse Laser in each of the right and left torsos.
Alternate Configuration B features more varied weapons, and is used when the 'Mech may need to play several battlefield roles. Like the primary configuration, this version probably gives its pilots problems with heat buildup. A careful pilot, however, can take maximum advantage of this configuration's immense firepower and versatility. One arm mounts a Large Pulse Laser, the other a LB 5-X Autocannon. Extended Range Medium Lasers in the right and left torsos round out the weapons array.
Configuration C appears most often when several Adders are used together. In these cases, all are equipped with Narc missiles, and a single Adder-C carries the Narc Beacon for them all. As a trade-off, this configuration must downgrade its missile launchers to LRM-15s. This version also carries a Medium Pulse Laser in its left torso rather than the ER Medium Lasers carried by Configuration B.
Alternate Configuration D appears to be a variation on the Adder-B, and it is rarer. This configuration features the Ultra-5 Autocannon and an Extended-Range Large Laser, and carries Streak missile launchers rather than Lasers in its right and left torsos.

The Adder is an OmniMech that lacks torso twisting capability.

Deployment: The Adder sees widespread use among all Clans, though it rarely serves as a reconnaissance 'Mech. Clan Wolf makes greater use of the Adder than the other Clans do, often assigning it to scouting missions. As a fire-support 'Mech, it serves with Stars of all compositions.

MechWarrior 3 Stock Variants

Overview:This 'Mech is small, short and fearsome. The Adder (Puma) primary variant's ER PPCs can be very dangerous. The Adder is somewhat fast and agile and can run circles around many larger and slower 'Mechs, but because it has no torso twist, it can have a harder time aiming all its weapons on an enemy at the same time. With a good and wise pilot at the controls, this small 'Mech can be very noisome and quite formidable.

MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries

Overview: MechWarrior 4 has its own idea of what an OmniMech is. Instead of there being multiple variants of an OmniMech each with different weapon and equipment loadouts, MechWarrior 4 makes what they call Omni slots, a place on a 'Mech that can have any type of weapon put into it, where as most slots are configured for only one type of weapon like for example lasers, or ballistics or missiles. But changing weapons and equipment only works for custom 'Mechs. This method restricts the amount of weapon 'boating' a MechWarrior can use in the 'Mech he or she plans to deploy and encourages some variety into 'Mechs used in the field.

Tech Level - CLAN OmniMech: Light Class
ADDER

Chassis Summary:
In widespread use among all the Clans, the Adder is a particularly tough Light 'Mech that fills a variety of roles.

As with many Clan 'Mechs, little is known about the development of the Adder. Given its nickname Puma by Inner Sphere MechWarriors impressed with its ferocity in battle, the Adder was a rude surprise to pilots who didn't expect that kind of firepower coming from a Light 'Mech. Favored by Clan Wolf, who often utilizes it in a scouting role, the Adder also serves as a fire-support 'Mech with many of the Clans.

TACTICAL:
Equipped with twin Extended-Range Particle Projections Cannons as its standard configuration, the Adder is deadly at longer ranges, particularly since it has the speed to maintain that distance against slower, heavier 'Mechs. Though the Adder is light enough to take on scouting missions, it can stand up to many Medium 'Mechs in a toe-to-toe contest.

Maximum Tonnage 35
JumpJet Capable No
Internal Structure Endo Steel
Maximum Speed 83 kpm
